The History of Stafford Falcons Football Club

Stafford Falcons was formed in 1984 by the now chairman Mike Barnard  – to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for local people to play football and be part of a community. What began as a small grassroots team has grown steadily over the years into a respected club with players representing a wide range of ages and abilities. From the earliest kickabouts on local pitches to competing in organized leagues, the Falcons have always been driven by passion for the game and commitment to fair play.

In the early years, the club relied on the dedication of volunteers, parents, and coaches who gave their time freely to help establish training sessions, organize matches, and build the foundations of what the Falcons have become today. Their hard work quickly paid off, with the team developing a reputation for determination on the pitch and sportsmanship off it. As the club grew, so too did its facilities and ambitions, enabling more children and adults to join and benefit from structured football in a friendly and encouraging environment.

Over time, the Falcons expanded into multiple teams across different age groups, giving young players a clear pathway to develop their skills and progress through the club. The introduction of youth and community programmes has not only strengthened the squad but also ensured that football remains accessible to everyone, regardless of background or ability. The Falcons’ emphasis on teamwork, respect, and inclusivity continues to define the club’s identity.

Today, Stafford Falcons FC proudly represents the town both on and off the field. With the support of dedicated coaches, volunteers, parents, and sponsors, the club continues to thrive, nurturing future generations of players and bringing people together through the shared love of football. The falcon on our badge symbolizes speed, focus, and strength – qualities we aim to embody every time we step onto the pitch. The story of Stafford Falcons is still being written, and with the passion of our players and supporters, the future looks brighter than ever.

Over 30 years ago, this Stafford Falcons U14's team were a small but determined team that carried a strong sense of community pride.

Though resources were limited and the uniforms far from polished, the players played with grit and heart, fueled by the support of families and neighbors who filled the sidelines each week.

This Falcons team built their reputation on toughness, teamwork, and the bonds formed both on and off the field, leaving behind memories that still echo in stories shared by those who were part of that era.

It created some solid foundations for the younger Falcons and even help produce a Stafford legend Anthony Gardner who went on to play for Port Vale, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Hull City, Crystal Palace, Sheffield Wednesday and had the honour of playing for England U21's and England first team.
